Mikes Drive-In - Portland: Reviews & Ratings

I don't know why but fries even thought they're cooked and in the warmer take so long to be brought out. So often people who only order fries and cones end up finishing their cones before receiving their single order of fries. I know cause it's happened to us several times now. Please can you have your team send out single fry orders when the fries are sitting under the lamp. It's an easy way to strike out a ticket and have less people in the lobby who are just waiting for their fries to leave. I wrote this whole review and finished my cone and still haven't received the fries.

1st visit was not great. Burger was OK nothing to scream about. Bacon is real, you actually tasted it, not the thin crap from Fast Food. Service was awful - lady got confused when I ordered a basic basket & burger. Then the line took 17min to move 4 cars. Once I paid & got my food, they forgot my waffle cone. I came back to the menu board & she asked if I wanted to wait in the line. I said NO I will be in the Drive Thru Parking Spot #1. A worker brought me my waffle cone but was not pleasant about it or apologetic. Will not return, especially this location. Prices are RIDICULOUS for how much food you get.

I hate to say that I was disappointed but that’s the reality. I knew in my heart of hearts that it was gonna take a minute to get my food, not 30+ minutes, Geezus!!!! The fastest thing they did was take an extra $0.50 for their dipping sauce that I dipped my barely Luke warm tator tots into. Asking for hot tots would probably cause a major impact to how they do things. If any one thing was good it was the Oreo milkshake. My 1-5 rating - Over all experience 3 of 5 Oreo Shake - 5 of 5 (this was the best thing) The Mike S Special burger was a - 3.5 of 5 Fries - 3 of 5 Tots - 1 of 5 Time to get food - 1 of 5 I’ve worked in restaurants and I’m a former production specialist and just watching their operation makes me wonder how they don’t see it themselves after reading reviews of the slowness. What I saw was people silohd in their stations chit chatting, not providing the best help to their neighboring station causing things to take longer. What really got me was seeing all the deep fried food sitting waiting for everything to finally catch up. It was so slow that if I called in an order while off I-5 in Ridgefield, WA (about 30-35 minutes away) it has a greater than 50% chance of not being done by the time I get there. It doesn’t take that long for fresh food. If they fixed their time to get orders out I guarantee their current overall 3.X rating will go into the 4s. If they get into the 4s it will increase businesses.

Very friendly and good food. Kids always love the ice cream, and let's be honest, we do too as adults, lol. the biggest thing i wanted to recognize today was this employee who actually cares enough to clean the entire chair and all the nooks and crannies of the business. it seems to be a lost art, and having a clean environment to eat at is very refreshing. kudos to you for caring about us too. I will definitely return.

I want to love Mike's but we've had some really questionable experiences. It's a great concept and the food is good but the management seems consistently poor. The interior lobby is always dirty, the customer service/friendliness of the team is very inconsistent and the staff are often loudly having very inappropriate conversations. It's also usually takes quite a bit of time to get your order and it's often incorrect when you do get it. I just wish they could tighten up the operations so it would be less of a gamble each time we visit.

Really disappointed in the food, but service was okay and the restaurant was clean. I got a deluxe burger (apparently it didn't ring up as a cheeseburger and the cook who delivered our food to our table was pretty standoffish when I asked about it). The patty was in about three pieces and kept falling out of the bun, and the bun itself was really dry like it was going stale. The fries were crispy and obviously fresh which was nice. The tots were far from crispy though. The indoor seating section was spotless and is laid out such that it doesn't feel too cramped. Nicely decorated and well lit. The cashier was very kind and respectful, answered a couple questions, and took our order quickly. Overall disappointed, but will try again eventually.

Look, this place gets busy and they can take a bit, but they make honest burgers, classic drive-in style. Give them a break, they aren't McDonalds. Low ratings are only going to hurt this local business. Every time I've eaten here it's been very good and I've been treated kindly.

Welcome to Mike's Drive-In, a bustling eatery nestled in the heart of Portland at 3233 N Lombard St. This family-friendly establishment aims to offer a classic American fast-food experience, serving up a variety of burgers, fries, and delightful desserts. While the menu boasts some impressive offerings, the journey to blissful bites has proven to be a mixed bag, based on customer feedback.

One of the highlights of Mike's Drive-In is undoubtedly their ice cream. Many patrons have praised the indulgent Oreo milkshake, which consistently garners perfect ratings as a must-try item. It's an undeniable crowd-pleaser for kids and adults alike. As you indulge in these sweet treats, you’ll find that they perfectly encapsulate the nostalgic essence of a drive-in diner—a true escape from daily life.

However, the allure of Mike's Drive-In doesn’t come without its drawbacks. According to reviews, the service has faced criticism, particularly regarding the waiting times.

Customers have reported extended waits for their food, often exceeding 30 minutes. One reviewer remarked on the frustrations of waiting for a simple order of fries, arguing that staff should expedite single-item orders sitting under the warming lamps. The common theme among visitors is a strong desire for improved operational efficiency to enhance the overall experience.

Another noteworthy mention is their burgers, which feature quality ingredients. While many appreciate the bacon's authenticity compared to typical fast-food offerings, the taste has garnered lukewarm responses, with some feeling the burgers don’t quite live up to their expectations. It's a situation ripe for improvement, as customers appear eager to rave about their experiences if the execution would match their appetites.

Although Mike's Drive-In has potential, consistent reports of dirty dining areas and inattentive service create challenges. Many visitors express a longing for a cleaner, more welcoming atmosphere, alongside a need for more gracious service. While some employees shine through with outstanding customer care, there is room for the management to tighten operations and ensure all team members share the same commitment to hospitality.

In conclusion, Mike's Drive-In - Portland is a nostalgic nod to American diner culture, serving some solid dishes amid operational hiccups. With a little attention to detail in their service efficiency and cleanliness, it has the potential to elevate its standing and transform those mixed reviews into glowing testimonials. For those willing to embrace a casual drive-in vibe and savor their ice cream delights, Mike's may yet be the next favorite stop in Portland’s vibrant dining scene.
